Love Story…

We first met at the age of 16 through my cousin and started dating at 17. Brendan proposed 6 years ago. He took me out to a fancy dinner in the city and later took me to a private pier, he got on one knee and asked me, he was very nervous, it was cute. What was really special to me was that he told a picture of my dad that he was going to propose. As my dad had passed away 2 years prior. It was very sweet.

Destination Wedding…

We did our wedding a little different, I wanted to avoid the whole walk down the aisle due to my father no longer being with us. So we eloped to Whitehaven Beach and had a party afterwards. After we got engaged I started telling people my idea of eloping and wanting a party afterwards. At first people were kept telling me that I would regret it but I never changed my mind so people just learned to accept it and were happy for me when it finally came about. We took so long to get married as we had a 5 year engagement but that’s because we were travelling and spending money on our house.

Save Vs Splurge…

We saved on accommodation as we were originally going to go with a more expensive accommodation but decided to go the slightly cheaper option which was fantastic anyways. We had a penthouse at the Pinnacle Resort at Airlie beach which was still very fancy. We also saved on the party afterwards as I did all of the decorations myself and we did a cocktail party as it was much more suited to our style. We splurged on the ceremony at Whitehaven Beach which was truly amazing and so beautiful and the seaplane flight over was breathtaking. We also splurged on an incredible flower wall at our party but it was worth it as it really set the scene.

Whitsunday Wedding Venue…

We choose Whitehaven Beach as our wedding venue as it is so beautiful and so private. We chose top elope as it was a relaxed option, on the day I didn’t have any stress, everything was taken care of and everyone was so lovely. It was very easy and I am a very anxious person so it was perfect for me. We didn’t want to fly overseas as well to have our ceremony and then have to do another ceremony in Australia so we picked a spot within Australia.

Wedding Week…

We also did an island tour while we were in the Whitsundays the day after our ceremony which was a fantastic idea as we had never travelled there before. We saw Hamilton Island and Daydream Island, both beautiful locations. It was short but great long weekend away.

Wedding Day Vision…

My key styling tip would be keep it simple. My dress was a very simple strapless dress. I paired it with some sparkly earrings and opted to have no other jewellery. I had my hair half up and half down with no veil and loosely waved which I think worked well for a beach ceremony.

I made a photo board with a collage of our photos from the ceremony so people could see our day. Our guests loved it.

We had a rose ceremony to remember my dad as it was his favourite flower and that was very special to me having that included in the ceremony.

Natalie and Matt – Villa Botanica

We had a bit of a whirl wind with Cyclone Debbie hitting the area 6 weeks before the wedding. We were so lucky that the Whitsundays wedding community rallied behind all the brides and did everything they could to accommodate and re-home weddings at the last minute.

Lesley and Ian – Marine Club

Ian had been a volunteer with the Marine Club so knew the location well and how beautiful it was. The foreshore was just stunning on a lovely day, so we had hoped our special day was one of those “just stunning days”. We were blessed with the perfect weather and location, everything on the day was just magical!

Airlie Beach Weddings at Peppers Resort

Michelle and Aaron – Sundowner Cruises and Peppers Airlie Beach

One of my closest friends, who knew no one else at the wedding before arriving on Thursday, said to me at the reception that she felt like she was at Christmas dinner with all her family. Which was exactly our aim for having a destination wedding.
