Your Love Story…

Is it cliché to say it was love at first sight?

We met on Anzac Day gathered around the two up circle. 3 months later we moved in together and 2 years later we’re married and happier than ever. The proposal was perfect – a low key dinner and a very nervous Matt on one knee by the beach front. We’ve changed each other’s lives for the better and not a day goes by that we’re not grateful for that.

Destination Wedding…

We chose a destination wedding to make our wedding a holiday and break for ourselves as well as our friends and family.

We wanted people to be relaxed on the day and not rushing to get there from work or needing to leave to get back to the kids. It’s the perfect excuse for a holiday!

The Whitsundays…

Matt had visited the Whitsundays several times in the past and we both visited at the end of last year to look at potential wedding venues.

Wedding Week…

We stayed for one week and were lucky enough to go jet skiing on one of the days. We also held a number of dinners with our friends and family on the beautiful balcony of our suite at Pinnacles.

Wedding Day Vision…

We didn’t have a specific theme in mind but we had originally considered getting married in Bali so Villa Botanica naturally reflected that style without having to do anything additional. We really set out making sure everyone was happy and felt beautiful. The bridesmaids picked their dresses in style and colour and you could really see how radiant they were on the day.

Sit Down or Cocktail…

We had just over 50 guests for sit down. The beauty of the venue is that you get a bit of everything. So between the ceremony and reception there is a lawn party with canapés as well as cocktail hour on a stunning balcony overlooking the water.

Save vs Splurge…

We didn’t set out with a budget. We had some ideas of what we thought it might cost but everything went out the window when we had to change venues anyway. We splurged in anything that made the day better for us and our friends and family. We wanted our bridal party to not have to worry about paying for things so we spent where it counted there and mind you the wedding dress wasn’t exactly cheap 😉 We saved by letting the experts do what they do best and not trying to add to their already impeccable styling.

Your Venue…

We had a bit of a whirl wind with Cyclone Debbie hitting the area 6 weeks before the wedding. Originally we were getting married on Daydream Island however the island came out second best from Debbie so we were forced to find a plan B.

We were so lucky that the Whitsundays wedding community rallied behind all the brides and did everything they could to accommodate and re-home weddings at the last minute.

We were able to secure Villa Botanica for the same weekend and plan a whole new wedding again in just 5 weeks! I would love to give a shoutout to Villa Botanica on just how easy they made the whole process and it really was entirely stress free the whole journey.

Your Suppliers…

Most of our wedding suppliers were recommended suppliers of both Daydream Island Weddings and Villa Botanica. Our celebrant, Donna, had a soft, beautiful energy that radiated in her voice over the phone so that was an easy pick. Brooke, our amazing photographer, was just exceptional on the day. Her organised and fun nature kept us on a wonderful high and everyone agrees that the images she produced are stunning. The hard part now is figuring out what to have printed!

I’d recommend making sure you click with the suppliers you choose. If you can work effortlessly together it will be easy to produce a spectacular wedding.

Merindah and Matt – Déjà vu Restaurant at Waters Edge Resort

We had dreamed of getting married somewhere warm and tropical and had been to the Whitsundays before and loved it. My husband wanted to get married in shorts and thongs and keep it more relaxed.

Sheree and Michael – Peninsula Pavilion and Waterline

We both love Airlie Beach and wanted to show our guests how amazing it was. The majority of our guests were from New Zealand and had never traveled to the Whitsunday area before. They all had an absolute ball.

Tanya and Brendan – Montes Reef Resort and The Palm House

Parasols, lace, chandaliers and a VW Kombi were just some of the elements that went into this shabby chic beach wedding in the Whitsundays. A seaside ceremony on the sand, followed by a formal reception at The Palm House.
