Why the Whitsundays…

We had visited the Whitsundays on a number of occasions before our wedding as it is only a short drive from where we live in Townsville. For us it is an amazing place for a quick and relaxing holiday. We had the luxury of choosing the worlds best beach, in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef, and only a couple of hours away from where we live! It was a perfect choice for the simple but stunning wedding we were after.

Destination Wedding…

Besides the incredibly beautiful location we loved the privacy and simplicity that the Whitsundays provided.

Wedding Week…

We stayed in the Whitsundays for 7 days. 3 days in Airlie Beach and another 4 on Hamilton Island. The best day of our honeymoon was on the first night when we went to Magnums to watch the NRL grand final and our team won!! Go Cowboys!! We also had so much fun on Hamilton Island: jet skiing tour, ATV tour, go karting!

Wedding Day Vision…

We didn’t really have any particular theme. Our style was to just “keep it simple”. It wasn’t exactly a traditional wedding but it suited us perfectly.

We wanted our wedding to be stress-free and easy. No people. No drama. No table settings. No shoes!

Splurge vs Save…

We splurged on location! We could have chosen anywhere around the Whitsundays but we really wanted to get married on Whitehaven Beach so we didn’t mind having to spend a little more to get us there. We also splurged on rings to make sure we both got exactly what we wanted. But mostly tried to save wherever else we could. We didn’t spend a lot of money on my dress or his suit. My dress was bought online!

Everything was included in a package which made the entire planning process so incredibly easy.

Whitsunday Wedding Venue…

Whitehaven Beach has been voted the best beach in Australia and one of the best beaches in the world!! We have also visited Whitehaven Beach previously so when we decided to elope it was the first place we thought of. And it was perfect.

Alana and Justin – Whitsunday Pavilion

We tried to keep to the relaxed tropical feel, but had to mix through a bit of boho. We just wanted everything to feel relaxed, the word “formal” had no place at our wedding!

Sara and Alasdair – Whitsunday Pavilion and Whitsunday Marine Club

Making the most of the seaside locations on offer in Airlie Beach, Sara and Alasdair held their ceremony in the Whitsunday Pavilion before transferring to the Whitsunday Marine Club for their sunset reception.

Rhiannon and Reuban – Villa Botanica

Two years prior to our wedding we attended a wedding in Bali that was perfect in every way. We then decided that we wanted our wedding in Bali too. However having to travel and coordinate a wedding in Bali takes a lot of time and patience so we decided to have our wedding at Villa Botanica, the closest thing to having a Bali wedding in Australia!
