Ocean Rafting Icebreaker Activities

Do you really want to spend months planning your dream destination wedding only to then spend the entire day introducing members of each side of the family to one another? How heartwarming would it be to arrive at your wedding ceremony and spot your favourite cousin sitting next to your fiancés best friend from primary school or join both sets of your parents dancing together at the reception because friendships had been formed in the lead up to your wedding day?

These are the reasons why the wedding week is becoming such a popular concept for brides and grooms, as it allows time before the actual wedding day for all your guests to meet one another and break the ice before the wedding day.

There is no better place in Australia to host your wedding week than the Whitsundays, with a seemingly endless supply of icebreaker activities available that will leave your guests with lifelong memories of so much more than the wedding day. Your choice of icebreaker event will of course depend on the amount of guests you have and the age groups involved.

To get you started here is our selection of the 7 best icebreaker activities to host in the lead up to your wedding day in the Whitsundays.

A sunset cruise aboard Sundowner

Nothing promotes mingling more than a sunset cruise aboard Sundowner. They are the experts in hosting sunset cruises for wedding groups and can accommodate up to 48 passengers aboard their custom built boat. Charter the vessel and you can choose your departure time, how long to cruise for and even pick your caterer and menu should you wish to supply your guests with some delicious food to accompany the breathtaking scenery. With an affordable drinks menu you won’t feel obliged to put on a bar tab either.

A floral crown workshop with Flower Hut

Better suited to the female attendees of your wedding, a floral crown workshop is a unique concept that gets your besties and all the ladies from your fiances side getting to know one another in a casual setting. Combined with a few bottles of champagne, a grazing platter and hosted in your accommodation and you have yourself the perfect afternoon. And if you use the right flowers you even give your friends some funky headwear for your wedding day.

A picnic at the beach, at the lagoon, on your balcony, in the park….

Keep it fuss free and super casual and invite your guests along to a picnic at one of the many stunning seaside locations in Airlie Beach. Peach & Pear Events Catering offer picnic hampers and mouth watering grazing platters that are perfect for this type of occasion. If you need a hand picking the perfect location talk to your wedding planner or even a few of your wedding suppliers… as long term locals they will be able to give you their favourite spots that might not be on the tourist maps.

Airlie Beach Hotel

Dinner and drinks at Capers on the Esplanade or La Tabella

Both of these restaurants are located on the Esplanade overlooking Airlie Beach and the Coral Sea and conveniently located in the heart of Airlie Beach so that all your guests will be within walking distance. They are both highly experienced in handling large wedding parties and cater to your particular requests. La Tabella even offers a private dining room should you wish to keep your icebreaker away from the crowds, the Cellar Dining Room can cater for 24 guests sit down and 30 for a cocktail experience. If you are not so keen on splitting the bill at the end then choose Capers on the Esplanade as diners are required to order and pay separately at the bar so you don’t have any awkward moments at the end of your evening with Uncle Dave pulling out his pocket calculator.

Please note that Capers on the Esplanade is closed for refurbishment till early 2018
