We wanted a relaxed wedding and we had always wanted to go to the Whitsundays so thought we would combine the two!

Whitsunday Wedding Venue…

Headland Park – it was perfect. We were right by the water but didn’t have to walk on sand and deal with sand getting in our shoes. The plants and trees around made it feel really tropical and there were minimal passerby’s so it was very private. For our reception we chose Peppers Airlie Beach as we wanted a private location for our reception that was outside but in a covered area in case of we weather.

Peppers exceeded our expectations, the view was amazing, the food was outstanding and the staff were just fantastic.

Whitsunday Wedding Week…

We stayed 5 nights in Airlie Beach and then had our honeymoon on Hamilton Island for 7 nights. Most of our guests arrived on the Wednesday and Thursday. We did a range of activities – on the Wednesday night before the wedding we had a dinner with both sets of parents, on Thursday we had separate hens and bucks dinners, Friday we went Ocean Rafting with almost all our guests, Saturday was the wedding and on Sunday we had a barbeque to wind things up. Then we travelled over to Hamilton Island and stayed at one of the Shorelines Apartments for our honeymoon.

Your Wedding Day Vision…

We had a rough style idea of modern vintage but essentially ended up just choosing stuff we liked, so it was a true reflection of our style.

Destination Wedding…

All our guests got to know each other. My family and most of my friends are from Victoria and Aaron’s family and friends are from Western Australia so most had never met each other and we don’t know the next time they might all see each other so it was really important to us that everyone got an opportunity to meet each other and get to know each other. Everyone was so relaxed because they had all travelled to be there and were on a holiday. It was like one big family holiday, most of us (including the Bride and Groom) almost forgot we were there for our wedding!

One of my closest friends, who knew no one else there before arriving on Thursday, said to me at the reception that she felt like she was at Christmas dinner with all her family. That really sums up how well everyone got along which is what our aim was for having a destination wedding.

Hens and Bucks…

It was very low key, we just went out to dinner. The boys went to Denman Cellars and the ladies went to Sorrento Restaurant.

Where did you splurge and where did you save…

Splurge – we chose to have a videographer in addition to a photographer and treated our guests to a sunset cruise aboard Sundowner Cruise with canapes and drinks before the reception.

Savings – we chose not the have a bridal party, we just had close family and friends.

Jo and Tony – Whitehaven Beach and Coral Sea Resort

We chose the Whitsundays because it was a midpoint for all our family and friends who were coming from New Zealand, Queensland, Western Australia and America. We had visited the Whitsundays a year earlier and fell in love with it.

Luxury Weddings in Airlie Beach

Brendan and Carly – Lure

If I’m completely honest it was Cyclone Debbie that led us to holding our wedding at Lure. Brendan and I are organised people and had booked our initial reception venue two years before our wedding.

Nick and Gyan – Villa Botanica and The Palm House

The Palm House was perfect for the reception, all our guests were in the one place and no one had to worry about traveling. It was like having our own little family village and gave everyone a good opportunity to mingle before the wedding day.
