Love Story…

Ian and Leslye first set eyes on each other just over 5 and a half years ago at the Mackay Marina when Ian was down doing an Army Reserve training weekend. A friendship grew and they kept in contact via a lot of highway weekend trips. The friendship blossomed into a relationship. Ian proposed on one knee on Leslye’s Birthday in front of close family and friends whilst out for dinner.

A Whitsunday Wedding…

Ian had lived in Cannonvale prior to moving to Mackay to be with Leslye, so it made sense to marry there.

We arrived the Thursday prior to the Saturday wedding. We had arranged a cruise for family to Hamilton Island and Whitehaven Beach with Cruise Whitsundays the day prior to the wedding as a lot of Family members had travelled from Perth and other distant cities.

Wedding Day Vision…

We had a sand ceremony, blue colours, shell decor on our tables to blend in with the Whitsundays. The coloured sands we chose to pour into our frame were dark brown to represent the ground, then cream to represent the sandy beaches, followed by dark blue to show as the ocean, and finally light blue to represent the sky.

Leslye wore her Grandmothers wedding ring and borrowed her sister in laws pearl jewellery as the pearls went well with her fitted dress.

Cocktail or Sit Down…

40 guests and we had a cocktail reception. We chose a cocktail reception as we wanted our guests to mingle socially. We had scattered tables, ottomans, stools and generally wanted to have the relaxed feel to our reception.

Honeymoon Heaven…

Yes, we flew to Spain the day after our wedding. We toured Spain, then did a Mediterranean Cruise, visited Italy and some of France.

Hens or Bucks…

Leslye had a hens gathering at “Church on Palmer” restaurant  a week prior. Ian had a few drinks with Family the night prior.

Splurge vs Spend…

We splurged on our honeymoon as we had no intention of saving money when travelling that far for our honeymoon. We saved by keeping our wedding and wedding party small.

Whitsunday Wedding Venue…

Ian had been a volunteer with the Marine Club so knew the location well and how beautiful it was. The foreshore was just stunning on a lovely day, so we had hoped our special day was one of those “just stunning days”. We were blessed with the perfect weather and location, everything on the day was just magical!

Whitsunday Wedding on Hamilton Island

Stuart and Emily – Hamilton Island

We wanted a really classy formal wedding being a black tie event, there were no colour themes other then whites and creams and lots of greenery at the reception. All of the bridesmaids outfits were ivory, the flower arrangements all creams and whites with lots of greenery for the bridal table.

Whitsunday wedding on Hamilton Island

Sara and James – Hamilton Island Weddings

Having a destination wedding was amazing for us as we were able to have the wedding we dreamed of and all of our guests were able to make the most of the Whitsundays and make a holiday out of it. Just make sure you give your guests as much notice as you possibly can so they can join in on the celebration.
